How To Build Bebop Lines - Level 1 - Day 4 - Down up Down
I am starting a series on how to build bebop lines from scratch on my personal Instagram channel, and putting all the PDFs on this site. The first step to building excellent bebop lines is to add a note to the scale so that all the chordal tones fall on the downbeats. This post is for day 4 of content, which is to play the 8 note scale down one octave and up one octave and then back down again to really get it under your fingers. For the dominant 7th chord, beboppers would normally use an 8 note scale on eighth notes to include the natural seventh and the flat seventh. This scale is known as the “bebop mixolydian” or “bebop dominant scale” and works over any dominant seven chord, including the bridge of Rhythm changes. Below you will find the sheet music. Try playing this scale over the blues and see how you like it! Follow me on Instagram at @jazztothebone to see daily content.
